MRI and CT scan are different from each other but they are mainly to use to diagnose diseases inside the body. Both these techniques are used by doctors to diagnose any kind of malignant cells in early stages so that proper diagnoses can be made. These methods give them a clear view of tissues inside the brain and body. Although both the techniques are used but it is a lot different between CT scan and MRI. In this article, I would like to discuss the difference between CT Scan Vs MRI.
CT scans Uses and Drawbacks:
CT scan was invented by Godfry and Robert in the year 1975 and CT scan denotes to Computerized Axial Tomography. CT scan is quite different from the traditional x-ray in which only one beam of radiation was used and it is unable to see the soft tissue of body as well.
In the case of CT scan, it emits the group of narrow beams in the form of radiations on the human body and it has an incredible ability to detect and diagnose early stages of malignant cells which later form cancer.
Doctors use this method to identify the cancer cells in early stages which can help to cures the illness in early stages. Therefore, CAT scans are powerful tools in the field of medical science but it has few drawbacks as well. They key drawback of CT scan is the use of radiations which cause damage to the DNA after continual exposure and prove harmful for the body. Some of the doctors still use CT scan for the diagnoses of various diseases such as broken bones, chest x rays or pneumonia tests.
MRI Uses and Drawbacks:
MRI refers to magnetic resonance Imaging and it is the latest technology as compared to the traditional CT scan. MRI was invented at the same time when the CT scan and it was invented by Dr. Raymond Damadian in the year 1971. He collaborated with the group of doctors and invented MRI technology which was first ever technology to give the view of the soft tissue of the body to the physicians. First MRI of the body was performed in the year 1977 by full MRI body machine.
Today most of the physicians prefer to use magnetic resonance Imaging for the images of tissues and structures of the body. MRI can easily detect the body tumors in the brain, blockage in the vascular system, and causes of a headache, carotid artery disease, dementia or any kind of masses in the abdomen. MRI scan can actually detect a number of disorders by providing the clear and concise image of the body tissue and provides more detailed information. MRI technology is more advanced than traditional x-rays and CT scans and it is likely to improve with the passage of time. Although it is safe technique as compared to the previous inventions but still care should be done when using MRI for pregnant ladies for heart patients who have the pacemaker inserted. The overuse of anything can be harmful but we cannot ignore enormous advantages of MRI use for detection and diagnoses.
